Herman Cain speaks out: His seven most memorable one-liners

Herman Cain's ascension in the Republican presidential campaign has been rich with zingers. Here are seven of Mr. Cain's most memorable quotes.

4. Quoting Pokemon

At the end of an August Republican presidential debate, Cain said: “A poet once said, ‘Life can be a challenge, life can seem impossible, but it’s never easy when there’s so much on the line.’ ”

Sure, the line doesn’t sound all that strange, but the actual source of it may. It turns out the quote isn’t some stanza ripped from a well-known poet, but rather a lyric from disco queen Donna Summer’s 2000 song, “The Power of One,” which is also the theme song for the Japanese animated film, “Pokémon: The Movie 2000.”

And this wasn’t the first time Cain quoted and incorrectly sourced the song lyrics. He actually made the same mistake in his official campaign announcement in May and again at the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans in mid-June.

Elaborating on this elusive poet, Cain has often attributed the lyrics to the closing song of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
