Record Store Day: Five gems worth hunting for

Here are five gems that you'll never see warping in the sun at a garage sale at my house.

2. Woodsmoke and Oranges - Paul Siebel

What? Who? You may not know him from Adam, but musicians did. His Dylanesque debut LP on Elektra Records perked up the ears of the likes of Kris Kristofferson, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Linda Ronstadt, among many others, seething with admiration and jealousy. Unfortunately Siebel is one of those guys who released a highly original gem of a record, then completely vanished. Apparently he became a baker for awhile, recorded a "comeback" record live at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica in 1980, and now works for the parks department somewhere. Still sounds good, kind of like "Nashville Skyline," only much better.
