Health-care services and medical devices and equipment will be two of the five fastest growing international investment sectors in the future, according to a US consulting firm. Huge research and development costs – up to $1 billion for a single drug – and possible monopoly profits make US health-care technologies a specific focus of foreign intelligence agencies. "The growing need for medical care by aging populations in China, Russia," and elsewhere are another factor behind foreign interest in US health-care.
