The interview is the beginning of a long cycle of communication. Submitting résumés and cover letters does not mean you’re in job-waiting. Following-up with phone calls, e-mails, or thank you cards will help expedite the process.

However, no one likes excessive communication. Employers are dealing with numerous other applicants on top of their workload, making a persistent “pick me please” annoying. Establishing balanced correspondence is more professional.

“The candidate has to do everything they possibly can to not just be some faceless candidate going into a computer,” says Myers.
