WE WONDERED WHERE IT WAS

The title is a bit intimidating: "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection." And the book itself is no longer in mint condition. Still, the Boston Public Library (BPL) is happy to have its rare 1859 first-edition copy of naturalist Charles Darwin's pivotal work back. Julia Geissler returned the volume, which was 80 years overdue. It turned up as she was cleaning out her great-great granduncle's home. BPL apparently isn't interested in pursuing the fine that would be payable in such a case ... perhaps because the book is worth in the vicinity of $10,000 to collectors.

SAVE THE RAIN FOREST!

Greenpeace, the environmental activist group known for its confrontational style, has come up with a new fundraising tactic on behalf of the besieged Amazon Basin. It's an on-the-scene, four-night dance party on a former mining site featuring techno music, nongenetically modified food, and building materials only of legally harvested timber.

Ranking Hollywood's best screenplays of all time

"Citizen Kane" and "Casablanca" were ranked as the two best movie scripts ever - but also were seen as among the most overrated, an informal survey of Hollywood screenwriters found. The two Oscar-winning films, as well as Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction," likely landed on the most-overrated list because writers reacted against obvious choices that draw attention away from lesser-known movies, said Max Rudin of the Library of America. The nonprofit publishing house polled hundreds of members of the Writers Guild of America to create the ranking. Its list of best screenplays:

1. "Citizen Kane"

2. "Casablanca"

3. "The Godfather"

4. "Chinatown"

5. "All About Eve"

6. "Some Like It Hot"

7. "Sunset Boulevard"

8. "Annie Hall"

9. "The Graduate"

10. "The Godfather, Part II"
