Renting a boat of your own

The National Park Service oversees the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Arizona and Utah.

Resorts and marinas are operated by the Aramark Corp., which has its local headquarters in nearby Page, Ariz. Call 800-528-6154 for reservations and information, or check it out online (www.

Houseboats are available at four Lake Powell marinas: Wahweap, Bullfrog, Hall's Crossing, and Hite. They range in size from the 36-foot Standard (which sleeps 6 to 8 people) to the 59-foot Admiral (which accommodates 10 to 12).

Summer rates range from $961 for three days on the Standard ($40 a day per person) to $5,172 for a week on the Admiral - not including fuel, which can be several hundred dollars for a fill-up.

Off-season rates drop considerably: three days on the Standard for $577 to a week on the Admiral at $3,103. There's a special deal this Thanksgiving - four days on the Admiral and a fully prepared Thanksgiving dinner for eight at $800.

Power boats for fishing or water skiing are available for rent, as are Tigershark personal water craft.
