Worth Noting on TV


The US Open (CBS, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. EDT): Plenty of tennis left to see in Week 2 of this year's US Open. CBS covers play both weekend days and Labor Day, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

The Beatles Anthology (ABC, 9-11 p.m.): A rebroadcast of the Emmy-nominated series about the Fab Four. Tune in Thursday (Sept. 5) and the following Saturday 9-11 p.m. for the second and third parts of this lengthy Beatles-fest.

Class Reunion (NBC, 9-11 p.m.): The producers of MTV's "The Real World" bring their idea to network TV. Here, 12 former jocks, socialites, and outcasts are divided into two houses where they interact for several days before their 10-year high school reunion. Portland, Ore., is the backdrop.


Tim Allen: Prince of Tools (A&E, 8-9 p.m.): A&E's "Biography" series highlights five sitcom stars starting Labor Day. Up first is Tim Allen of "Home Improvement." Tuesday is Jack Benny's turn, with Roseanne, Danny Thomas, and Mary Tyler Moore rounding out the week.

Abbott & Costello Festival (Disney, 9 p.m.-5 a.m.): The well-known duo headlines this marathon that begins with "Abbott & Costello Go to Mars."


USA vs. the World: the Ultimate Gymnastics Competition (FOX, 8-10 p.m.): Mary Lou Retton co-hosts the competition between members of the gold-medal-winning US women's gymnastics team and top world challengers.

The People and the Power Game (PBS, 9-11 p.m.): Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Hedrick Smith explores how the media and lobbyists - the unelected "shadow government" - affect democracy, often adversely, in the first of two enlightening programs.

The second part, which airs Sept. 10, looks at the problems caused by tension between the presidency and Congress, with a focus on the duel between President Clinton and House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Both parts include a forum with Americans discussing the issues and possible solutions.
