TOP 25 TEAMS IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Each week, the Associated Press conducts a poll to determine the top teams in college basketball. They are among the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I teams that begin nationwide playoffs March 18. The playoffs will culminate in the Final Four tournament at the Superdome in New Orleans April 3 and 5, broadcast on CBS-TV.

At press time, these were the rankings and records for the top men's teams:

1. North Carolina (26-3).

2. Indiana (27-3).

3. Michigan (25-4).

4. Kentucky (23-3).

5. Vanderbilt (25-4).

6. Arizona (22-3).

7. Kansas (24-5).

8. Duke (23-6).

9. Seton Hall (24-6).

10. Florida State (22-8).

11. Cincinnati (22-4).

12. Wake Forest (19-7).

13. New Orleans (26-3).

14. Arkansas (19-7).

15. Utah (22-5).

16. Louisville (18-8).

17. Iowa (21-8).

18. Purdue (17-8).

19. UNLV (20-6).

20. Massachusetts (22-6).

21. Oklahoma State (19-7).

22. Xavier, Ohio (21-4).

23. Tulane (21-7).

24. New Mexico State (23-6).

25. Brigham Young (23-7).

Women's college basketball championships will conclude with a Final Four tournament at The Omni in Atlanta April 3 and 4 (CBS will also air these games). Here is the AP ranking of the top women's teams, along with their records:
