Autumn Film Releases

THE fall movie-release schedule is in, with three dozen films slated to open by Thanksgiving. Spike Lee's "Malcolm X" is set for Nov. 20; Francis Ford Coppola is back with "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (November); Andy Garcia and Dustin Hoffman face off in "Hero" (Oct. 2). Tom Selleck circles the bases in Japan in "Mr. Baseball" (Oct. 3). Paramount weighs in with "1492" (Oct. 9), the second Columbus film this year.

Several films are adapted from books: Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" (Oct. 2), Josephine Humphrey's "Rich in Love" (Oct. 23), and "The Lover" (Oct. 30) from Marguerite Duras' story.
