REVIEW PANEL FINDS NO PROOF OF COLD FUSION

An independent scientific review of controversial cold fusion experiments at the University of Utah has found no proof that nuclear fusion occurred in the research, according to a report released Tuesday. University scientist Stanley Pons and his British colleague Martin Fleischmann last year stunned the scientific world with their claims of achieving nuclear fusion at room temperature in a simple experiment.
The report by four American and Canadian scientists said that while they had found evidence of excess heat in the experiments, they saw no proof the heat was generated by fusion, a process that releases huge amounts of energy but normally requires temperatures of millions of degrees.
