PILGRIM REACTOR FINED

Pilgrim nuclear power plant officials have 30 days to respond to a $25,000 fine levied by the Nuclear Regulation Commission (NRC) for alleged violations during testing this spring at the facility. The penalty was prompted by a test at the Boston Edison-owned plant's reactor core cooling system April 12 during which the workers failed to close certain valves as required by the NRC, and 100 gallons of water spilled onto the reactor building's floor for about two minutes, the NRC said.
