Pine sister

They whisper me here, the pine trees of the forest, join roots and hold me. Umber needle floors are spotted with steps of light. The sun holds my feet.

They capture me with their partial hiding places, the fur animals.

I cannot move now captive in rabbit heaven, but light unlocks me.

They think a dull cow has wandered to their inlet; a tree is walking.

My hands touch the crust of tall ones that drink the sun. They will share with me.
