Under the bright blue sky of this clear day my shadow trails like a good dog on a leash as I walk on campus to class. In contrast, some shadows signal mischief -- coming at me, self's animated sidewalk presence pulls the constant keeper on a course of tug and sniff. Approaching from the side, a sun-sculpt shape sneaks out from heel, is jerked in turn, skids into me, and exits in the passing. Then a student in the crosswalk drags a balky silhouette on which I step and neither of us feels a thing except a nip to my awareness. What a relief to sit in class and dimly in the fuzzy outlines see the silent hounds asleep beside their owners.
