US will inform if radiation leaks
Vienna — The United States will inform other countries of radiation leaks from accidents involving nuclear weapons as well as civilian nuclear plants, Energy Secretary John Herrington said yesterday. ``The United States will also voluntarily provide notification with respect to any other nuclear accident which has or may have trans-boundary effects of radiological safety significance,'' Mr. Herrington told an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conference.
Asked whether this meant military nuclear acidents, Herrington replied: ``Yes.'' Earlier the Soviet Union and Britain also said they would give information on both civilian and military accidents.
