To our readers

Until a few months ago, the Ask a Builder column had appeared regularly in The Christian Science Monitor since the spring of 1965. In those 19 years Forrest M. Holly provided answers to nearly 2,000 inquiries from Monitor readers, all of them based on his broad knowledge of the building business and each one colored with his own particular warmth and light touch. The letters came from all over the world and from just about every state.

Now, with Mr. Holly's passing, and in gratitude for his untiring work in behalf of our readers, we are initiating a new feature, which we hope will have the same wide appeal as its long-running predecessor.

Richard A. Kent is a practicing architect and general contractor in southern California. Since 1962 he has had broad experience in the design and building field, including land development, industrial/office projects, and residential work.

While the column will now be labeled Ask an Architect, it will be directed to the same wide field as its predecessor column. So if you have a question on designing, improving, or maintaining your home, school, church, or place of business, send it to the: Real Estate Editor, The Christian Science Monitor, One Norway Street, Boston, Mass. 02115.
