Hunger aid being mounted for many nations by UN, EC
The UN Food and Agriculture Organization approved $15.8 million in emergency food aid under the UN World Food Program Tuesday for more than 1 million people in drought-ravaged Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Lesotho, Jordan, and Mexico.
Meanwhile in Brussels, the European Community, heaped high with farm surpluses, launched a multimillion-dollar campaign to fight famine in Ethiopia and other African countries. Plans were announced to spend $24 million on cereals, medical supplies, and transport, with a backup fund of $19 million to be set up shortly.
