Jackson rates visit to Mexico a success
The Rev. Jesse Jackson wrapped up his Mexican visit Tuesday and resumed the campaign in New Mexico. (New Mexico is one of five states holding primaries June 5, the final day of the presidential primary season.)
Asked if the trip was a success, he said, ''very successful.''
The Rev. Mr. Jackson found a lot of agreement from Mexican officials that the threat to Central America was not communism but ''poverty, ignorance, and disease.''
Jackson once again said the Mexico trip was a preliminary journey that would lead to future trips. ''We do intend to meet at some future date . . . with the rest of the Contadora leadership. We intend to go deeper into Central America and to make a witness for peace,'' he said.
