France departs Lebanon but will send observers

France is sending several dozen military observers to Beirut to help supervise a planned cease-fire along the Green Line dividing the capital, Western diplomatic sources said Tuesday.

The sources said the men would arrive before Saturday, when the French combat troops now in Beirut will complete the withdrawal they began earlier this week.
