Weak response puts halt to Chilean general strike

Chilean unions and truck owners called off a general strike after failing to gain widespread support. The strike began Thursday but appeared to have affected only the trucking industry. Strike organizers said the poor response was caused by a government news blackout that the Chilean media largely respected.
