Ariel Sharon made his first trip to the United States since he was forced to resign his post as Israeli defense minister. Speaking to a conservative Zionist group in Liberty, N.Y., he staunchly defended Israel's actions in Lebanon and said the accord for withdrawal of foreign troops from Lebanon did not go far enough.
