Thirty-three establishments, including resorts, restaurants, and motels, were recipients of Mobil Travel Guide's 1983 Five-star Awards. In all, the guide inspected and rated more than 20,000 dining and lodging establishments in 4,000 cities and towns across the United States and Canada. To win five stars, an establishment must demonstrate consistent excellence. The service, decor, landscaping, housekeeping, maintenance, food, and hospitality are all evaluated.

California leads in overall recipients with six awards, followed by Arizona with five and Florida with four. New York and Colorado have three winners each. The Mobil Travel Guide is available at most service stations and major bookstores.
