Shultz arrives in Paris, meets with Mitterrand

French President Franccois Mitterrand met with Secretary of State George Shultz Tuesday to reassure Americans that France remains a ''solid,'' though independent ally.

Mr. Shultz was on his fifth stop in a seven-nation European tour. In Rome, he talked with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Italian Prime Minister Amintore Fanfani and Pope Paul John II.
