Explosion flattens Israeli headquarters in Tyre

Israel's military headquarters in the south Lebanese port of Tyre was flattened by a huge explosion Thursday, and unconfirmed reports said 8 people were killed and 50 wounded.

The Israeli Army said in Tel Aviv the explosion was caused by a booby-trapped car that detonated near the headquarters. Lebanese Army sources said the victims included Lebanese and Palestinian civilians who had been in the building seeking news of detained relatives at the time of the blast. The blast appeared to be the worst attack on Israeli forces since the end of the Israeli occupation of parts of Lebanon last summer.
