A third of Reagan voters drop support, poll says

Lack of confidence in President Reagan's economic program has resulted in the defection of more than a third of the voters who backed him in 1980, a Los Angeles Times poll shows.

The nationwide poll of Democrats, Republicans, and independents indicated 49 percent of Reagan's 1980 supporters said they wanted him renominated by the Republican Party in 1984. Thirty-five percent said they wanted the GOP to dump him. The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 4 percent.
