Social Democrat Jenkins runs well in Scottish vote

Social Democrat Roy Jenkins appeared headed for a return to Parliament in a special election seen as crucial for his one-year-old party. Three opinion polls published hours before voting began Thursday forecast the election of the former deputy prime minister over the candidate of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's Conservative Party.
