So keep an eye on the "Future Fuels Challenge Rally," which starts across the country from Los Angeles Sept. 5, with cars running on stuff like wood, garbage, prunes, artichokes, sunflower oil, and whey if not curds. Maybe these particular alternatives will not be tomorrow's power. But there must have been a time when someone doubted that all those black chunks from underground would burn. The descendants of Prometheus have to keep trying.
