In a Monitor story May 5 on Democratic opposition to the Reagan budget, the words "do not" were inadvertently left out of remarks attributed to Everett Ladd , director of the Roper Center at the University of Connecticut. The sentence should have read:

"But Reagan's personal appeal and Republican gains among voters do not explain the kind of Democratic l eadership withdrawal witnessed in Washington, suggests Everett Ladd . . . ."
