Gold!

One day I went to the first gold mine in the US with my grandpa. It is not in California, but in North Carolina. It is called the Reed Gold Mine. The Reed Mine in 1799 by a boy who was out fishing. He found a 17-pound nugget which his father sold for $3.50! The biggest nugget from Reed's was 28 pounds!

After they panned for gold in the streams, the Reeds had to dig underground. The deepest shaft was 150 feet. We explored the dim tunnels through white quartz rock. Then we looked in the brook for gold. Any gold you find at Reed's today is yours! I'd sure like to find another 28-pound nugget.
