Two Cubans set for retrial in Chilean envoy's murder
Washington — Two Cubans already once convicted in the assassination of former Chilean Ambassador Orlando Letelier del Solar are returning to court for a second trial in connection with the murder.
The convictions of Guillermo Novo Sampol and Alvin Ross Diaz were overturned when a federal appeals court ruled the government could not introduce testimony from informants who were their cellmates.
Mr. Letelier and an aide were killed when a bomb was detonated under their car near Washington's Embassy Row in 1976. Letelier was a top official in t he Marxist government of Salvador Allende, overthrown in 1973.
