Slain missionary buried after simple ceremonies

The wife and two daughters of slain American Bible translator Chester Bitterman left Colombia Sunday after fulfilling his wish to be buried at a simple ceremony in the countryside. Bitterman was shot to death Saturday by leftist guerrillas who held him captive for 48 days to demand the Summer Institute of Linguistics, the US-based missionary group he worked for, leave the country.

Interior Minister German Zea, who is in charge of nationwide police operations as well as supervision of Indian affairs, condemned the slaying and declared the government will not cancel its contract with the in stitute.
