US legislators in Far East for talks on Soviet buildup

A 14-member US congressional delegation arrived for talks with Singapore leaders to discuss the Soviet naval buildup in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. A US Embassy official said the talks would focus on the growing Soviet naval traffic through the Strait of Malacca and Soviet activities in Vietnam and Cambodia.

The team, led by Rep. Melvin Price (D) of Illinois, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, will also visit India, Cairo, Tel Aviv, and Athens before retu rning home.
