S. Korean turnout heavy for vote on constitution

More than 90 percent of eligible South Koreans voted to decide whether to adopt a new constitution that will pave the way for President Chun Doo Hwan to stay in power for the next seven years. Just before the polls closed, voter turnout stood at 91.4 percent. Officials attributed the turnout of good weather and a massive campaign to encourage people to participate in the referendum.
