Ford runs up record loss in first quarter of 1980

Ford has reported a record loss, $163.6 million, for the first quarter -- its second quarterly deficit in a row. In the same period last year Ford had earnings of $594.8 million. The loss, caused by the effects of inflation, was the largest recorded during a single quarter since the automaker went public in 1956.
