US boycott called risk for L.A. for '84 games
| Lake Placid, N.Y.
Los Angeles may well lose the 1984 Olympics if the United States boycotts the summer games in Moscow, says Willi Daume, a West German and former vice-president of the International Olympic Committee. "The question of whether Los Angeles can stage the 1984 games has been frequently discussed in the past few days," he said as the Winter Olympics closed.
"Certainly, the games will be in great danger if the White House does not drop its boycott plans and its idea of alternative games," he said.
Mr. Daume is a candidate for committee president when Lord Killanin steps down.
