Ulster peace drive leader resigns in falling-out

Betty Williams, one of the founders of the Northern Ireland peace movement and co-winner of the 1977 nobel Peace Prize, has resigned from the movement after a bitter internal split. Mrs. Williams's resignation, 3 1/2 years after she and Mairead Corrigan founded the group, poses serious financial problems for the group and leaves its executive committee close to collapse. Although details of the split were not disclosed, it appeared clear that Mrs. Williams and Miss Corrigan had fallen out.
