Youths to Discuss Healing

THIS weekend young people of all faiths are gathering for a meeting called "Breaking Free" on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass.

Sponsored by Christian Scientists from the northeastern United States and Canada in partnership with The First Church of Christ, Scientist, the meeting is designed to "help young people discover a healing perspective to many of today's problems," says Karyn Mandan of the church's global outreach and healing ministry department.

Although the Christian Science Church has held meetings for young adherents since 1955, Christian Scientists in various parts of the world began in 1988 to organize gatherings open to all young people. That year a group in Montevideo, Uruguay, sponsored a meeting, and since then youth meetings have been held in Germany, Mexico, South Africa, and throughout the United States.

The meeting opens tonight and continues through Saturday with small-group workshops and discussions. Everyone aged 12 to 30 is welcome; there is a $55 registration fee that includes two meals.
