The raisins, added first, sweeten the water in which the oats are cooked. The nuts and seeds give it a crunchy quality, as well as making this dish a complete protein. 2 cups water 1/2 cup raisins 1 cup oats 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1/4 cup sunflower seeds 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

In a one-quart saucepan, combine water and raisins. Bring to a boil. Add oats gradually, stirring. Add cinnamon and vanilla. Reduce heat and cook for about 8 minutes. Ladle into bowls and top with seeds and nuts, or offer the seeds and nuts on the side. Children like to help themselves to extras. Serve with milk, cream, or yogurt. Note: Extra can be refrigerated or frozen.

Microwave method: In a two-quart microwavable casserole, combine all ingredients. Mix well. Micro-cook on high for 8 to 10 minutes, depending on consistency desired. Stir after half time. Serves 4.
