Show proceeds go toward sprucing up inner city's blocks and vacant lots

It's called Philadelphia Green, the Philadelphia Horticultural Society's 32-year-old program to enlist neighborhood support in beautifying the inner city block by block. The result is oases of beauty -- 1,100 planting projects in all -- ranging from a collection of planters in a sunny corner to sitting gardens and food gardens on former rubble-strewn lots.
