Sydney, Australia -- Top-seeded Ivan Lendl of Czechoslovakia won the $285,000 Australian Indoor Tennis Championship Oct. 20, defeating fifth-seeded Henri Leconte of France in the final, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6. Tel Aviv, Israel -- Top-seeded Brad Gilbert won the $94,000 Israel Grand Prix tennis tournament the same day, defeating Israel's Amos Mansdorf 6-3, 6-2.

In the doubles final, Gilbert and Romania's Ilie Nastase beat Michael Robertson of South Africa and Florin Segarceanu of Romania 6-3, 6-2.

Basel, Switzerland -- Second-seeded Stefan Edberg of Sweden overcame top-seeded Yannick Noah of France 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-1 Oct. 20 to win the $150,000 Swiss Indoor Tennis Tournament.

Tokyo -- Second-seeded Scott Davis defeated fourth-seeded Jimmy Arias 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) in an all-American final and won the men's singles title in the Japan Open Tennis Championships.

Argentina's teen-age sensation Gabriela Sabatini defeated American Linda Gates 6-3, 6-4 Oct. 19 to capture the women's singles title.

Filderstadt, West Germany -- Top-seeded Pam Shriver defeated Sweden's Catarina Lindquist 6-1, 7-5 in the final of the women's $175,000 Grand Prix tennis tournament Oct. 21.

The American also teamed with Hana Mandlikova of Czechoslovakia to win the doubles against Carina Karlsson of Sweden and Tine Scheuer-Larsen of Denmark, 6-2, 6-1. The match took only 52 minutes.
