Reconciliation with Sikhs sought by Mrs. Gandhi
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi appealed Wednesday for national reconciliation with the Sikhs. But the Press Trust of India said she dismissed speculation about a quick withdrawal of troops from Amritsar's Golden Temple, the holiest Sikh shrine. The Army could leave only when weapons there had been found and removed, she said.
Arms found in the temple had been manufactured within the shrine or smuggled in from outside, she said.
