Are you seeking?

Are you facing a challenge you feel is insurmountable? Perhaps you feel you've looked for an answer, but to no avail. Well, the good news is that there is a solution.

Jesus told us in his Sermon on the Mount, ''Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.''n1 Sounds fairly simple, doesn't it? But don't we sometimes find ourselves in such a state of worry or discontent that we forget to ''ask,'' ''seek,'' or ''knock''? We must look for a solution before we can find one. Where do we look?

There's an account in the Bible of a man who had been seeking healing for a very long time - thirty-eight years. Christ Jesus found him waiting by a pool in Jerusalem, which was believed to have a healing effect for the first person to step into it at certain times. Again and again the man had missed being the first one in the pool because he had no one to carry him.

When Jesus saw this man he asked him, ''Wilt thou be made whole?'' Of course the man wanted to be healed. Wasn't Jesus challenging him to look directly to God as the source of his health and strength, rather than to the supposed powers connected with the pool? Perhaps Jesus discerned that this man was ready to put his faith in something other than the water to heal him. He told him to rise and walk, ''and immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked.''n2

Maybe we too have been putting our trust in some form of matter to bring about a solution. But we can each start right now to seek Truth, God, more sincerely. God gives only good - in fact, He is the sole source of good - and He does not afflict us but cares for our every need. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes, ''When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path.''n3

Because God is good and the only creator, each one of us is actually the perfect outcome of a loving God. As children of this one Father-Mother, we are sinless and pure, with a perfect heritage. By claiming this spiritual fact and coming to feel it through prayer, we begin to see it expressed in every facet of our lives. We begin to feel God's direction and purpose for us and to see our own unique individuality. We experience health and joy more consistently.

What if we've been earnestly seeking an answer through prayer and haven't found it yet? Maybe we're focusing too much on the problem. Christian Science does not deny that discord seems to exist, but it does deny that discord has any validity or substance in reality - that is, in the perfect creation established by God. Mrs. Eddy writes, ''The starting-point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind, - that God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle.''n4

Since God is All, discord of any kind is a deception, not the reality of being. That's why no problem is too insignificant or too severe to be healed, and there's never a problem without a solution. If we are sincerely seeking, God will reveal the answer to us.For ''he that seeketh findeth.''n5
