'Reagan for Senate' -- Maureen

There'll be a Reagan on the ballot again come 1982 - not the President, but his daughter Maureen. Monitor correspondent Sara Terry reports that Ms. Reagan is announcing her candidacy for the Republican primary for the US Senate today (Nov. 2). She joins a field of seven other Republican possibilities as the only woman running for the seat now held by Sen. S. I. Hayakawa, who is also running. Although Ms. Reagan has never yet placed above 15 percent in public opinion polls on the Republican Senate race, some experts think the President's daughter has considerable potential, particularly in such a crowded field.

Other likely candidates for the GOP Senate nomination include Rep. Barry Goldwater Jr., San Diego mayor Pete Wilson, and Rep. Paul N. McCloskey Jr.

Although Ms. Reagan has a famous name to lean on, her father says he has made it clear to his daughter that he will maintain his longstanding.
