UNESCO to investigate ads and the news media

A committee at UNESCO's biennial general conference overrode Western objections, voting to proceed with research into the influence of advertising on news media. It also decided to produce a report on media handling to violation of human rights , intolerance, violence, and pornography. Meanwhile, a 12 -nation group continued talks on draft proposals to carry out a controversial report on reshaping international news reporting and communications. Western representatives objected to passages defining principles for a new world information order, which third world nations hope will help then develop their own news media and end what the consider domination of international communications by rich industrial states.
