Political opponents clash in Salisbury

Rival supporters of Premier Robert Mugabe and Home Affairs Minister Joshua Nkomo clashed on the streets of central Salisbury Wednesday in the first such incident here since Zimbabwe, the former Rhodesia, became independent from Britain April 18. It appeared to mark a further worsening of relations between the country's two coalition partners.

Trouble started after about 200 members of Mr. Nkomo's Patriotic Front Party -- the junior coalition partner -- demonstrated outside Parliament, calling for the dismissal of Mr. Mugabe's finance minister, Enos Nkala. Two persons were injured.
