Cost of essential items soars twice inflation rate

The price of energy, housing, food, and medical care shot up a record 23.7 percent between January and March, According to the National Center for Economic Alternatives, A Washington economic research firm. The four items used in the index compose about two-thirds of the average American family's household budget.
