New Iranian parliament moves up first meeting

Iran's new parliament, charged with setting terms for the release of the American hostages, will meet May 28, a week earlier than expected. The Islamic Republican Party, which dominates the parliament, favors trying some of the hostages on spying charges.

Meanwhile, the largest Iranian Navy maneuvers since the Islamic revolution were begun in Persian Gulf waters Monday, inspected by President Abolhassan Bani-Sadr, state radio said.

Also, Iran has severed the link between its currency and the dollar, and will instead set it against special drawing rights, a basket of 16 major currencies set up by the International Monetary Fund.
