The film adaptation of Markus Zusak’s bestselling novel “The Book Thief” has gotten a trailer.

“Thief,” which takes place in Germany during World War II, stars Sophie Nélisse as Liesel Meminger, a young girl who is taken in by Hans Hubermann (Geoffrey Rush) and his wife (Emily Watson). The Hubermanns give shelter to a young man named Max Vandenburg (Ben Schnetzer) who is Jewish. The movie is directed by Brian Percival of “Downton Abbey.”

The trailer shows Liesel arriving at her new home and Hans teaching her to read. Liesel bonds with her foster father and, later, Max, over books. Meanwhile, the family experiences the pressures of living in Nazi Germany as they continue to try to hide Max.

“Thief” was first released in 2006 and has experienced very strong sales ever since, currently occupying the fourth spot on the New York Times Young Adult bestseller list.

The movie is scheduled for a Nov. 15 release. Check out the full trailer.
