A new trailer was recently released for the second season of the ABC show “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

(Warning: If you haven’t seen the movie “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” beware of spoilers!)

“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars actor Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, who heads up the S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) team on which the show centers. The new season of the show follows the events of “Soldier,” in which Captain America (Chris Evans), former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) discover that S.H.I.E.L.D. had been infiltrated by evil Hydra agents, resulting in the effective destruction of the group by the end of the film. At the end of the first season of "S.H.I.E.L.D.," which aired following the theatrical release of "Soldier," Fury made Coulson the new director of the organization and told him to bring S.H.I.E.L.D. back.

Therefore, in the new trailer, Coulson is describing to his agents how they will now operate.

“This is a make-or-break moment,” he said. “The enemy has the advantage, but we have to fight on for those we’ve lost so the sacrifices they made were not made in vain. And then we’ll disappear, become ghosts. That’s how we have to live now – in the shadows, to protect the innocent, to save lives, even when they don’t know it.”

In addition to Gregg, “S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Chloe Bennet as Skye, a computer hacker; Iain De Caestecker as Fitz, who is an expert in weapons technology; Elizabeth Henstridge as Simmons, a biochemist; Ming-Na Wen as Melinda, a pilot; and Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, who was discovered to be an agent for Hydra during the show's first season.

Gregg told the website Collider that the new season will include determining the allegiances of various characters.

"The idea of rebuilding SHIELD means we’re gonna have to seek out some old friends and find out if they were really were friends, or if they were Hydra," he said. "There’ll be new supervillains... there’ll be new friends. Hopefully some of them will be a little super, too."

The second season of “S.H.I.E.L.D.” premieres on ABC on Sept. 23.
