A pink Apple iPhone with 'Force Touch' may be in pipeline

The next iPhone may be available in pink, and offer Force Touch, a touchscreen that can read how hard or soft a user presses.

Consumers shopping for a new iPhone in the coming year may be able to go pink, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

The Journal, citing unnamed Apple suppliers, said the company is considering adding the “Hello Kitty”-esque coloring to a lineup that currently offers the iPhone’s aluminum casing in black, white and silver.

The phones could also feature Force Touch, a technology displayed Monday when Apple presented its Apple Watch and new MacBook laptops. With Force Touch, a touchscreen can read how hard or soft a user presses.

In this Spanish town, capitalism actually works for the workers

With it, a light tap and a deep press on the same spot could prompt different functions. For example, the Journal cited the potential for a piano app that would let users more closely mimic the way they’d play on an actual keyboard.

The follow-up to Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus likely will debut this fall. The current generation was released on September 19, keeping with schedule that has seen Apple consistently roll out new iPhones ahead of the holiday shopping season.

The Journal sources said there will be no change to the iPhones’ current screen sizes — 4.7 inches on the iPhone 6 and 5.5 inches on the 6 Plus.

Those options turned out to be a pretty massive success for Apple. In the first quarter after they were released, Apple sold 74.5 million iPhones.

Apple, like other tech companies, will sometimes test features on their gadgets that never make it to market.

Welcome to retirement. So, are you ready to catch your first killer?

Sources told the Journal that mass production on some elements of the new iPhones is set to begin in May.
