Allegiant flights to connect smaller New York cities to Florida

Allegiant flights between Florida and Stewart, Hancock, and MacArthur airports in New York State will begin this fall. Most of the new Allegiant flights are twice a week with Florida destinations.

An Allegiant Air jetliner flies over Las Vegas, May 9. While other US airlines have struggled with the ups and downs of the economy and oil prices, tiny Allegiant Air has been profitable for 10 straight years. New Allegiant flights will connect three more New York State airports to Florida destinations.

Three airports in New York are getting another national airline.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air says Tuesday it's adding service to 10 airports, including Long Island MacArthur in Islip, Stewart International in Newburgh, and Hancock International in Syracuse.

Allegiant generally only flies twice a week to most cities and most of the new flights are to Florida.

The airline is adding seven new 177-seat Airbus A320s to boost coverage on the East Coast.

Currently, jetBlue Airways, Delta Connection and US Airways Express fly out of Stewart. Syracuse also has jetBlue, Delta and US Airways, as well as Air Canada, United and American Eagle and some smaller carriers. Southwest, US Airways and Penair fly out of MacArthur.

The new Allegiant flights will begin this fall.
